Associate Scientist - Upstream (Biopharmaceuticals)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate Scientist (Upstream) to join a leading biopharmaceutical manufacturer based in Dublin. This position sits within the Manufacturing Science and Technology (MS&T) team, supporting the commercial manufacturing of biologics in the area of cell culture.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, execution, and analysis of experiments related to media, seed train, bioreactor, and harvest activities-helping to drive process characterisation, technical transfer, and GMP implementation.
You'll work cross-functionally with Process Development, Manufacturing, Engineering, QA, and Regulatory teams, contributing to global initiatives and high-impact technical projects.
Key Responsibilities
Support commercial and product technical transfers including late-stage process characterisation.
Design and execute upstream cell culture experiments, interpreting data to support NPI and site operations.
Prepare and optimise media to support lab and manufacturing activities.
Author laboratory protocols, reports, and operating procedures.
Troubleshoot process-related events and evaluate new process technologies.
Collaborate with global network teams to establish best practices and assess emerging technologies.
Qualifications & Skills
MSc in Biological or Chemical Sciences/Engineering (or BSc with 2-5 years of relevant experience).
Hands-on experience in cell culture, fermentation, or bioprocessing environments.
Strong data interpretation, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation abilities.
Understanding of cGMP requirements and regulatory compliance.
