Reporting directly to the Health & Safety Lead, the Operations Safety Specialist assumes a pivotal role in fostering a positive and proactive safety program within the general manufacturing area. Collaborating seamlessly with various departments, including Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain, this role is instrumental in establishing and sustaining a robust safety culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with site management to develop, implement, and maintain Health and Safety (H&S) programs and systems, championing the sites Safety First Culture.
  • Conduct daily safety walks and audits of the general manufacturing area to proactively manage and mitigate risks.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to identify potential unsafe conditions, recommend solutions, and implement preventive measures.
  • Identify workplace hazards, complete risk assessments, and advise management on appropriate control measures.
  • Conduct regular Safety Inspections to ensure departmental compliance with the Site Safety Statement.
  • Champion compliance with the site cannula cleaning safety standard across all shifts and departments in collaboration with the management team.
  • Drive the site program to reduce embedded cannula injuries and pokes actively.
  • Liaise with other departments (Operations, Engineering, etc.) on equipment, articles, and substance purchases, ensuring adherence to appropriate H&S standards.
  • Actively participate in Project Teams/Groups, considering H&S in the Project Planning process for the introduction of new technologies.
  • Support H&S training for new and existing associates and contractors as required.
  • Support all H&S accident/incident investigations and follow-up on the closure of corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records and conduct metric analysis to provide Management and outside agencies with essential information and visible trends.
  • Work closely with those responsible for Emergency Procedures to prevent fire and ensure safe employee evacuation in emergency situations.
  • Liaise regularly with elected Safety Representatives and the site safety committee to address and openly communicate on existing or upcoming H&S issues.


Educational and Experience:

  • Qualified in Health and Safety
  • A candidate with 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Operational experience with a key focus on safety in a regulated environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance procedures, standard operating procedures, and protocols.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and training skills.
  • Ability to engage and influence individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint packages.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated efficient work methods, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
